How to Properly Utilize Mock Exams in Your Studies

Remember the difference between studying using mock exams and with questions that provide instant feedback. While mock exams (those which simulate the actual exam with testlets, breaks, and which withhold correct answers until the end of the four hour attempt) are great for benchmarking how well you would likely do on the exam as well as practicing your endurance, these are not optimal for day to day studying.
The best way to learn is to receive instant feedback to your Sim/MCQ attempt, rather than wait until the end of a four hour mock exam. The instant feedback is superior for correcting your weak points as your brain immediately interprets the explanation and learns from its mistake. Additionally, after attempting a full mock exam most candidates do not have the energy or concentration to go back and review the questions they go wrong.
We suggest not practicing using a mock exam too close to the actual exam, likely ceasing their usage a week or two before. Mock exams (those which simulate the actual exam with testlets, breaks, and which withhold correct answers until the end of the four hour attempt) are great for benchmarking how well you may be doing after studying for a while.
However, even if you are on track to succeed, if you falter for some reason and receive a low score on a mock exam too close to the exam, the psychological impact of seeing that low score may hurt your confidence without enough time to build it back up.
