Here we have the notes of the financial statements. And what good would numbers and financial statements be without a little description? Kind of diving more into detail of what you're seeing in this section. You'll see a lot of descriptors of, okay, yeah, we presented the numbers, we presented the information, but let's kind of give a little footnote to it, essentially, right? Think of it as the footnotes of the financial statements. That's what I'm calling it, not what the AICPA is calling it. Let's see what the AICPA wants you to know here. All, first off, the learning objectives say, adjust the notes to the financial statements to correct identified errors and omissions. What that really will be is you will see a bunch of examples in this chapter about what types of disclosures and footnotes you'll need in the notes.

You might see a Sim on a bunch of numbers, and it says, do you need to put a footnote in here? If so, which footnote? And it might give you four, five, six footnotes to choose from. That would be one of the ones you might need to use to correct errors and omissions. Next, compare the notes to the financial statements, and the supporting documentation to identify inconsistencies and investigate those inconsistencies.

We're going to see a lot of different, again, examples of why you would put different pieces of information in the notes to the financial statements. Think of these, such as, again, the footnotes, the executive summary, almost like a translation, a translation of the numbers that you'll see because there's so many different kinds of companies, so many types of organizations, and they all have different reasons for why they report what they do.
