Intangibles refer to non-physical assets that a company possesses which are expected to provide economic benefits for more than one year, such as intellectual property, brand recognition, and goodwill acquired through business combinations. These assets lack physical substance but are often valuable resources that contribute to the future income and competitive position of the entity.
